I’ve been thinking a lot this week about inspiration. Basically, I’m trying to feel more inspired by the world around me, and feel less like slapping random people back into their caves.
Oh, don’t act like you haven’t felt the same way at least once.
So, since I love reading Amber Strocel’s Crafting my Life weekly blog thing and I agree with Havi Brooks that rituals are important, I’m going to totally rip them both off and (try my damnedest to) do a weekend inspiration round up.
Yeah, I’m basically going to ramble on about the things that have inspired me (preferably in good ways) each week. Feel free to breeze past, this is more for me than you (though, that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t love comments and discussion!)
I’ve been surrounded by boxes for so long I’m sick. At the old house there was at least a nice garage I could toss them in and forget about. Here? They’re staring at me from the middle of my living room. Mocking me.
The worst are the mementos. A plastic storage tub full of baby clothes long outgrown, but too dear to hand away. Pictures, both in frames and in boxes, of memories I won’t want to forget. I gave away more than half my books with fewer tears than when I even consider tossing one old photo of Evan in a diaper, or Trey trying to walk, or Saffron in her green sunhat. Damn.
But this week, I’m looking for inspiration from others who were able to GET.RID.OF.THAT.STUFF.
One of my favorite destuffafier (I totally just made that word up) blog, Rowdy Kittens, posted a guest post from another good blog on downsizing and moving on, Uprooted. The blog owner, Jessica Reeder, just started a new DIY blog called Love and Trash.
And so I’m reading, and I’m thinking, and I’m so not ready to give up physical, hold in my hands, pieces of the past. But I’m going to detox my closet today and purge all the clothes I’m still hanging onto in the belief that I’ll wake up tomorrow with my pre-kids ass again. And then I might try to go through the boy’s clothes. Or eat ice cream, which ever feels right.
Baby steps people, baby steps.
If one person can give up their reliance on, well, everything! Then surely I can be inspired to give a little more of this crap I keep dragging along behind me.
Namaste
