A couple moms in my feed reader were talking about this year long challenge to learn just 12 new things. Hosted by Like A Warm Cup Of Coffee, the challenge is to tackle one new task each month that you want to learn. Anything, something, now. Before another year slips by.
The entire idea behind it sounds so beautifully DIY that I couldn’t help but want to join in. Sure, the month is almost over. But I’ve got a great plan for this weekend to knock August off my list right before September nips at my heels.
- August – Learn to make and freeze tomato paste. Done!
- September – Make non-crumbly granola bars.
- October – Learn to knit a sweater
- November – Learn to make a quilt
- December – Learn to use a drop spindle
- January – Make homemade soap
- February – Find a way to cook green beans to taste good
- March – Learn more about container gardening for my garden.
- April – Learn to grind my own flour
- May – Make homemade crackers
- June – Become a better photographer (and photo editor).
- July – Make homemade ice cream, and have it turn out well.
So there’s my plan for the next twelve months. Of course, as is my luck, once I have a plan in place everything will implode around me. But I can try, and the trying is what matters.

Love this idea! For our 2 yr wedding anniversary this month, Tom and I are creating our couple/family “bucket list” (for want of a better term). We’re having fun thinking of the different things we want to do together in the next year, 2 years, 5 years, 10, etc.
