Back, back again. My weekly round up of posts from around the web that I’ve written. Click, read, enjoy.
- Do Only Children Still Get Social Skills? Only children are often thought to be lacking in social skills due to their non-exposure to siblings. A new survey, however, may show that being an only child does not inhibit a child’s social skills.
- Premature Baby Receives Breastmilk Donation From Special Place Two mothers, both had their babies at four months premature, both babies suffered from dangerous complications. - Private School Rejects Four-Year-Old Because of Lesbian Mothers Tracy Harrison was raised in a strict Baptist home and considers herself a devout Christian. So when it became time to enroll her 4-year-old daughter into preschool, choosing a Christian based school seemed like the obvious option. - Could An Infection During Pregnancy Cause Schizophrenia? Schizophrenia is a serious mental illness that prevents a person from being able to tell reality from hallucinations and paranoia. Though several theories as to the cause have been looked at, most scientists have been unable to find a real cause for the mental illness. New research, however, may point to illness before the person was born.

A new study found that mothers who choose not to breastfeed are twice as likely to develop diabetes in their lifetime. That may be reason enough to skip the bottle.

@ 3:34 PM:
You’ve been busy Summer! I just wanted to point your attention to the comment I left at the bottom of the schizophrenia article. I am reprinting it here for people who might not read it but who may feel alarmed at reading the title.
While this is a good article for mental health professionals like myself to keep up with new studies, although this has been one of the many different theories for quite some time, I think it is also a bit fear-mongering and will make some mothers worry unnecessarily. Schizophrenia has a genetic, environmental and bio-psycho-social model that best explains its cause. You can be born with a genetic disposition or not. Early environmental factors usually need to trigger this as well for one to develop the disease. Neuro-developmental abnormalities need to be present. Again, schizophrenia may or may not come about and this is based on the presence of more environmental factors. Further brain dysfunction can cause schizophrenia. Schizophrenia is not a cut and dry disease. Not at all.
I’m happy to discuss this with you if you had any questions.
